Pamela Heard, Ph.D. - Director
Dr. Heard is the Director of the Rutgers-Newark Counseling Center. She received her M.Phil., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Clinical Psychology from Yale University. Dr. Heard is a licensed clinical psychologist in the state of New Jersey. She has been a member of the Counseling Center's staff for 16 years.
Dr. Heard, co-facilitates a support group for Students who are Mothers and are juggling multiple roles. Dr. Heard has a special interest in this population as well as mood disorders, particularly depression; working to reduce the stigma associated with mental illness and encouraging help seeking behavior; and along with her staff, providing both traditional clinical services and non-traditional ways to assist students manage stress (e.g., DeStress Fest, workshops and support groups) and other mental health issues.

Tracy Clarke - Administrative Assistant
Tracy is the Administrative Assitant for the Counseling Center. She has received certificates in both Business/Accounting & Information Technology from Rutgers University. Tracy is currently pursuing her BA in Finance at Rutgers University. She has been a member of the Counseling Center's staff for 6 years. Tracy's professional interests include providing excellent customer service to students.

Polly McLaughlin, M.A., LCADC - Substance Abuse Specialist
Sheila Farrell, LCSW- Consulting Substance Abuse Counselor
Sheila is a part time Consulting Substance Abuse Counselor at the Counseling Center. She received her MSW from the University of Michigan and is a Licensed and Certified Social Worker in the state of NJ. Sheila is in her first year of working at the Counseling Center. She has a special interest in alcohol and other drug related issues, anger management and domestic violence.
Frank Greenagel Jr., LSW, LCADC - Consulting Recovery Counselor
Frank is a Recovery Counselor at the Counseling Center. He received his MSW from Rutgers University and is a Licensed Social Worker and Licensed and Certified Alcohol & Drug Counselor in the state of NJ. Frank is in his first year of working at the Counseling Center. He has a special interest in issues related to addiction & recovery, adolescents, criminal justice, family therapy and military veterans.
Psychotherapy
Raymond Brock-Murray, M.A. - Consulting Psychotherapist
Raymond is a part time Consulting Psychotherapist at the Counseling Center. He received his Master’s degree in Clinical/Counseling Psychology from Fairleigh Dickinson University and is currently completing his Ph.D. at Seton Hall University. Raymond is in his first year of working at the Counseling Center.Raymond co-facilitates the Bridging the Cultural Gap and the International Students support groups. His clinical interests include issues of diversity, multiculturalism, self-esteem; and family issues. Raymond's outreach interests include collaborating with student organizations to promote student mental health wellness, diversity and multiculturalism through a variety of topical workshops.
Jen-Mai Wong, Psy.D. - Counseling Psychologist
Dr. Wong is a Staff Psychologist at the Counseling Center. She earned her Psy.M. and Psy.D. degrees in Clinical Psychology from the Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology at Rutgers University – New Brunswick. Dr. Wong is a licensed clinical psychologist in the state of NJ. Dr. Wong has been a part of the Counseling Center's staff for 5 years. She facilitates the Improve Your Body Image support group. Dr. Wong's clinical interests include the treatment of eating disorders & body image concerns and the use of mindfulness & relaxation techniques. in therapy.
Elvia Valencia, Psy.D.- Consulting Psychologist
Elvia Y. Valencia is a part time Consulting Psychologist at the Counseling Center. She earned her masters and Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology and her M.H.S. from Duke University School of Medicine. Dr. Valencia has worked with the Counseling Center team for 4 years. She co-facilitates the Bridging the Cultural Gap and the International Students support groups. Dr. Valencia's clinical and research interests include cultural adjustment and multicultural issues in the treatment and prevention of mental health problems in culturally diverse populations. She is bi-lingual and offers counseling in both English and Spanish.

Carmen Berrios, RN, APN - Consulting Advanced Practice Nurse
Carmen Berrios is a part time Consulting Advanced Practice Nurse at the Counseling Center. She received her masters degree in Child, Adolescent and Adult Mental Health from Lehman College and is working on her PhD in Nursing Research at NYU. Carmen is a licensed CDS Advanced Practive Nurse in the State of NJ. She has worked with the Counseling Center team for 2 years. Carmen's clnical interests include eating disorders, co-occurring disorders, addictions, and the diagnosis and medication management of mental health disorders. She is also bi-lingual and provides services at the Counseling Center in both English and Spanish.
