One on one counseling provides an atmosphere in which students have an opportunity to explore their thoughts, feelings, behaviors and/or experiences of themselves and others in their lives.
Individual counseling gives a student a place to organize their thoughts and learn new skills and ways of thinking that may benefit them throughout life. Our goal is to help empower students with an enhanced ability to effectively solve problems on their own.
Specialized Services: The Counseling Center also provides specialized counseling in:
Eating Disorders & Body Image Concerns: We offer supportive and confidential treatment services to help students deal with food and body concerns. Available services include one-on-one counseling, support groups, medication and referrals to nutritionists. Staff is also available to consult with students, faculty and staff about these issues as well as to provide a wide range of outreach and educational activities related to eating issues, body image concerns and nutrition.
Anger Management: We offer a series of 5 -6 individual sessions for students who have experienced problems related to their anger. Through the course of the program, the student is taught different ways to manage situations that may provoke anger and might otherwise result in negative consequences. The student is given several opportunities to practice and apply these skills during and between sessions. The program is tailored to meet each students’ particular needs.
Alcohol & Other Drug Assistance Program: We offer a counseling and educational program related to alcohol and other drugs. The primary goal of this program is early identification and treatment of alcohol and drug abuse problems and alcohol/drug dependence. Support is available for students who are concerned about their drinking or other drug use, or the substance use of a friend or a family member.
